FAQ
What if my cat ignores it?
Some cats climb in within minutes, others circle it for a few days first. If yours takes her time, put the basket where she already sleeps rather than where you would like her to, and leave a blanket or jumper she has used inside it. That usually settles it. If she still has not claimed it after 30 nights, contact us and we will refund you in full. You keep the basket or pass it on to a local shelter.
Which size should I get?
The 42cm Regular fits most cats up to around 6kg, the ones who curl up tight to sleep. The 48cm Large suits bigger breeds, long haired cats, cats who sprawl with a leg over the edge, and households where two cats end up sharing. If your cat is between sizes, take the larger one. Cats rarely complain about extra room.
Will she wreck it?
The rope is meant to be scratched, that is the point of the weave. Normal scratching compacts the coils rather than pulling them apart, and the basket softens with use. A cat who chews rather than scratches is a different matter, and no woven product will survive that. If yours is a committed chewer, this is not the right bed for her.
Will this stop her scratching the sofa?
It gives her a surface she is more likely to choose, in a spot she already wants to be, which is how redirection works. It is not a guarantee. Cats scratch in multiple places and usually keep at least one favourite. Placing the basket near the furniture she currently targets gives you the best chance.
Does it replace nail clipping?
No. Scratching helps her shed the worn outer layer of her claws, which is why cats seek out the right texture, but it does not shorten claws the way clipping does. Keep up your normal nail care routine, especially with older cats.
What is it made of?
Handwoven natural cotton rope with no plastic coating and no chemical treatment, with a removable padded cushion in the base. Because every basket is woven by hand, small variations in the weave and slight differences in tone are normal.
Does it smell?
No. Synthetic fibre baskets are coated and carry a smell cats notice long before we do. Natural cotton rope does not. Some baskets have a faint clean cotton scent on arrival that fades within a day or two.
How do I clean it?
Spot clean the rope with a damp cloth and let it air dry fully before she uses it again. Vacuum the weave with a brush attachment now and then to lift out fur. Keep it out of long spells of direct sun so the natural fibre holds its colour.
Is it suitable for kittens or older cats?
Yes to both. The rim is low enough for a senior cat to step into without jumping, which matters if she is stiff in the mornings, and it keeps her off a cold floor. Kittens tend to take to it immediately.
Can two cats share one?
Two smaller cats often squeeze into the 48cm together. Most multi-cat households do better with one each, since the appeal is partly that the basket carries her own scent. That is why we offer 10% off two.
